The MAX and OBJ formats have been optimized to work perfectly with computer-aided design programs, which means you can load them into your preferred software for smooth performance. STL files are actually the raw files that the 3D printer needs in order to spit out a real physical version of your model - essentially they're the blueprint, or plan, for printing it.
