MASS REDUCTION: 71% This lightweight design bracket will be produced by means of selective laser melting (SLM) technology. its complex geometry does not imply any problem for this additive manufacturing (AM) technology, which is focused in joining metallic materials to make components layer by layer from 3D model data. The optimization was carried out using Abaqus Topology Optimization Module (ATOM). This software has advanced capabilities for nonlinear structural optimization, providing designs which meet the structural needs of a part, while improving performance and reducing costs associated with weight/mass. ATOM enables to perform topology and shape optimization for single parts and assemblies, while taking into account large deformation, material nonlinearity and contact.
