Louver Blinds Bracket

Louver Blinds Bracket

The blinds in my room were hanging loose, and inspection showed it was due to one bracket being broken. The other bracket was cracked and soon to break due to UV damage. Looking through all the rooms revealed that the blinds still worked but virtually all of the bottom bracket holders were broken or about to break. There was only one solution……

Measuring the existing bracket showed a thickness of 1.2mm. The design of the bracket did little to counteract the forces caused by the blinds when they are bumped or operated. Add a little bit of UV damage and shearing at the corners is inevitable. Making stronger brackets should be easy by doubling the thickness, and making the bracket in multiple pieces so both can be printed flat on the bed should eliminate shear between print layer. A pocket in the base piece where the upright can sit, along with a liberal application of cyanoacrylate adhesive should allow for a considerably more durable blind holder.

FreeCAD was the weapon of choice, and both parts were incorporated in one drawing. The parts were printed from Overture PLA White at a layer height of 0.2mm with 3 perimeters and 5% infill; inspection of the cross section showed that the internal space of the print is quite small and infill would probably add very little strength. This part is almost all perimeter.

The parts were assembled with Henkel Loctite Superglue Liquid liberally applied in the pocket, and again along the seam after the upright was put in place. This second application of glue should act as a rounded transition between the parts, further increasing resistance to shear forces.

Please let me know if you find this design useful!
