This bracket holds a dowel or rod roughly 5/8" or 16mm in diameter. It is low profile and meant to appear hidden when installed inside a doorway. In the photo example, the bracket is inside a closet's doorway behind the side door jambs (like where door hinges would be attached). It can't be seen from outside the closet.

Once installed, the dowel touches the top frame. This keeps it secure and in place. Only one screw is needed to secure each bracket. They won't rotate or move because the flat top of the bracket is in contact with the top of the doorway or window.

Installation

Start by cutting your rod or dowel to size and test fit the cut piece. It should fit just inside your door or window frame. Then remove 6mm of material (each bracket is 3mm thick).

Note: If you'd prefer to not drill any holes because you're renting or just don't want to, some 3M mounting tape should also work. You'll just need to measure the thickness of your tape and remove twice that much from your dowel.

Go to one side of your doorway or window and push the bracket into the corner. Mark the screw hole for drilling a pilot hole. Repeat for the opposite side.

Use a 7/64" bit to drill your pilot holes for two #8 wood screws. Then loosely attach one bracket. Insert the screw just enough that it bites into the pilot hole and stays on its own. It should be very loose. This will help you install the dowel if you don't have a second pair of hands.

Put the end of the dowel into the loosely installed bracket and push it into place. Holding the dowel, move to the opposite side while moving the other end of the dowel into the other corner. Slide your second bracket into place and secure it with your second screw.

If the dowel was cut to the proper size, the loose bracket should be held in place by friction. Finish tightening that screw and you're done!
