The stock spool holder was too high; didn't fit on my shelf. This one is lower, you lose a bit of z height but that doesn't matter to me much. Also this has lower rolling resistance than the stock holder. The tube is a piece of PTFE filament tube (such as goes between the extruder and the hotend). If you don't already have some it is available all over the internet.
