I used the tape measure trick from Hackaday https://hackaday.com/2017/12/17/diy-cable-chain-looks-great-stays-cheap/ and designed two printed parts to connect my x-axis cable. The parts are created to use a full size tape measure for maximum stiffness. The slot on the motor mount holds the metal hook end of the tape measure in place. These parts are for the amazing Lowrider CNC by Ryan! https://www.v1engineering.com/ ----- July 2019 added V tray version with 1/8" (3.175mm) slot for larger v channel.
