I have a 2242 m.2 drive for my laptop, but only have a slot for an m.2 2280. The drive location doesn't have an adjustable place for the screw to accommodate the physical size of the drive. Rather than buying one on eBay, I made this instead. The name of it has "Vertical" but I just set it to print that way to avoid having to remove more supports. Take your m.2 2242 drive and attach it to the plastic teeth, insert the drive and extension into the slot for the 2280 drive, then screw it down in place. For best results, add supports. I always add a raft as I never get good results without it. When I removed the raft the large supports came off with it easily. I only have to use a screwdriver to break off the nub where the screw is used to tighten down the drive.
