The M8088 came out of the 2155 “Nano-Ghost” program which saw the first aggressive use of nanomachines to enhance human performance. A microscopic needle in the handle would inject a wielder with the nanobots which would then undergo a 24 hour acclimatization period before rapidly multiplying. The bots would entirely replace the nervous and circulatory systems, drastically improving reaction times, pain tolerance, and oxygen absorption. At higher levels, the bots would optimize organ function, improve the senses and even allow the hardening and manipulation of the skin. It was theoretically possible for 100% of the cells in a user’s body to be replaced turning them into human/robot hybrid with complete control of their physical form. The blade itself could act as a blaster or sword depending on the situation at was capable of both lethal and nonlethal actions in both cases.
