MacBook Charger

Oh not again my magsafe wire is broken! I'm tired to fix it and I don't want to buy a new one for 90$. That was my feeling after many years using a MagSafe 1. /!\ Warning, during the process of building this case I have accidentally broken my charger (short-cut) so, be extremely careful while manipulating yours. Many times I received electrical shocks, even if the charger wasn't plugged in. This is because condensers keep an electrical charge and discharge it when you touch the wires. It is really painful : don’t make the same mistake! If you start building your own case I strongly advise you to ware insulating gloves while manipulate the charger. You also need to wrap the charger in a plastic sheet, or use the one that comes with the original magsafe. /!\ If you decided to use a jack connector for the power, know that this is a very common connector. You might have many devices that use this same connector so, do not let kids play with this charger. And do not try to plug an other source of electricity into your charger Also I strongly recommend you to use ABS for the case. This chargers heats a lot, PLA will bend because of the heat produced. Especially if you put the charger on a bed or a carpet. /!\ Please do not start building it before you read my safety instructions above!!! I got tired of repairing and using electrical tape to secure the wire. After few weeks spent in my backpack the wire was breaking. Plus once you open the case of your charger you cannot put it back. Apple does this on purpose to prevent people from repairing it. So 2 years ago I started thinking of a 3d printed replacement for the magsafe1. I came up with this 3d printed case. It allows you to nicely wind your magsafe connector and prevents the cable from braking! You can modify my design for your own purpose (for example an other type of connector, or different screws...) For this design I used the latest version of FreeCad that was available: FreeCad 0.18. I strongly recommend you to use this version or higher. I experience issues with 0.16 especially because I use many Bodies for this design. Material needed: - Magsafe 1 60W (I think other powers will have bigger cases) - 2 M3 screws 24mm - 2 M3 screws 6mm - 4 M3 nuts - Jack Dc 5.5mm x 2.1mm female connector - Jack Dc 5.5mm x 2.1mm male connector Feel free to contact me if you have questions I will be happy to see people interested in this project :)
