Magnet Adaptation for Spiral Chess / Puzzle Board

First, I want to thank the folks that created the original Spiral Chess Set, the Remix of that chess set and the puzzle chess board. I used the remix of the chess set because I did like the Knight more than the original. They turned out amazing and links are below. (Yes, the bishops are not facing the right direction, but I'm too lazy to take another picture) Original Spiral Chess Set https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:470700 Remix Spiral Chess Set https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3370658 Puzzle Chess Board https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1505544 So, AFTER I printed everything which took almost a week, I noticed a comment that someone wished they were magnetic. I didn't even know those existed, but though "Geez, I wish I had known that before I printed all of this out!". So, I decided to make an after-market adaptation that would allow this thing to be magnetic and it's really cool. If you are a perfectionist, this mod will make your chess board seem perfect every time you set it up and with every move. Perfectly centered every time! What you will print: ----------------------------------------- (2) Corner 1 pieces (2) Corner 2 pieces (4) Side pieces (6 minimum) Inside connectors (8 minimum) Outside Connectors (2) King bottoms - 1 of each color (2) Queen bottoms - 1 of each color (4) Bishop bottoms - 2 of each color (4) Knight bottoms - 2 of each color (4) Rook bottoms - 2 of each color (16) Pawn bottoms - 8 of each color What you will need: ----------------------------------------- (96) 8 x 3 mm neodymium magnets Glue to hold the board together and to attach magnets to chess pieces (Optional) Felt for the bottom of the board to prevent scratches on surfaces (Optional) Spray glue to hold the felt on Example Magnet Link (link at time of posting) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CPV7X8Y/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_azoMCb3JFW9P6 Glue I used - DAP Rapid Fuse (link at time of posting) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DA6X0E8/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_GHoMCbDQ3V5W2 You can use whatever glue you want, but I like the DAP Rapid Fuse because it sets in 30 seconds an cures in 2 hours to a very strong hold with PLA or PETG. I chose these magnets because they seemed to be perfect. They are not so strong where it will "click" hard into place, but strong enough you can turn the board upside down and they don't fall off. I use an MK3 which is an amazing printer, so the pieces are a perfect fit. If your printer tolerances are off, it may be a bit tricky to get the magnets or connector pieces in. Steps after printing: ----------------------------------------- 1. Place all of the corners and center pieces together to ensure proper location and then glue the connectors in place to make a full size board (this thing is big). The connectors will cover the gaps/spaces where the board goes together to make it one big piece. 2. Put magnets in each hole on the bottom board. Tip: Connect several magnets together and just push the magnet "tube" in and slide off. This will help keep the magnets in the same order to ensure you have the correct north/south poles positioned properly while placing them. 3. Carefully start at one end and start gluing the sides and puzzle pieces from the original puzzle board onto the bottom you just printed. Work your way from one end to the other until finished making sure the edges match up on the outside of each line of puzzle pieces. 4. Put the magnets in the bottom adapters for the pieces. Tip: Use a similar technique as #2 to ensure each magnet pole is positioned correct. TEST THIS before gluing them down as it will not come off after 30 seconds of curing. 5. Enjoy the perfect position of your chess pieces. If you wish, you can put the felt on the bottom of the board so that it will not scratch up surfaces where you play. For anyone curious, I used the following filaments. For the board: ----------------------------------------- Hatchbox PLA Wood https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01092XXD4/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_4KoMCbMRHZSWN 3D Solutech Carbon Fiber https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KWVOFD4/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_dOoMCbSQYJF34 For the pieces: ----------------------------------------- Amolen Marble Color https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0721SVW3L/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_CNoMCbVNBZFMQ Amolen Speckle Shining Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CWS8T22/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_GMoMCbFPPE94E
