Magnetic Connector - 3 Terminal

Magnetic Connector - 3 Terminal

thingiverse

This is a connector which uses 3mm makerbot magnets as the terminals. The magnet are oriented so that their polarity allows all three terminals to contact in only one orientation. I use these on my motorcycle to run 5V, GND, and signal between an arduino based GPS and an LCD with a serial board. I designed it for a quick disconnect application, I use them on the bike this way to make sure they could deal with the vibration. So far so good! Instructions Print and clean the part with an exacto knife. For each wire: Strip and flatten the ends of a 22AWG solid wire. Hook the flattened, stripped end of each wire into a corner of the connector. Hooking the wire will help keep it in place for the next step. Press the magnet (in the desired orientation) into the square slot on top of the wire end, so that part of the wire is pressed between the magnet and the vertical slot wall closest to the connector corner. Route the wire through the strain relief slots extending from the center hole.
