Mahlkonig X54 Single Dose Hopper

The Mahlkonig X54 is a great grinder however their stock hopper is huge! While it does a decent job single dosing stock we wanted to make something with a smaller form factor. There's a Korean option out there on the internet however he doesn't ship outside of Korea so we took that design as the inspiration for this hopper and plunger system. It's quite simple to install you just unscrew the plastic part of the stock hopper and this will slide right in. It's easier to use the included base to bypass the safety mechanism than to try and build a totally new system. Lance talks about this in his video below. For the bellows we modeled the open hopper for this bellows system linked below. However in its current iteration this hopper creates a lot of mess in top chamber once you open the grinder. We're working on finding a gasket that can create a seal, will update this once we've found a good option. The open hopper has a space to fit some metal o-shape rings that we purchased from Home Depot. I don't remember the exact one but it's one of the everbilt linked below. I'd recommend going in to match it up. We found that the X54 works best when it has weight feeding the beans through which is the reason for this plunger design. Adding in the two o-rings with the hopper creates about a bags worth or so of pressure to keep grind consistent and to allow you a broader ranges of grind size. I've made this design open to remixes if you'd like to adjust the top plunger to fit the bellows you're currently using better, the silicone option we went with is a little week, could use more compression in my opinion.
