Make a Gargoyle using 3d CNC technology

A 3d Rhino head for decorating a kids safari themed environment or used as a prop Instructions the 3d model is created either from digitally scanning a clay maquette that was hand sculpted, or the model could be created from scratch using 3d modeling software, in this instance Zbrush was the choice due to the organic nature of the thing. 1st illustration the 3d model is then transferred into a software package that handles the slicing of the 3d model using the .stl format, also known as a stereolithographic. We used carvewright's STL software package because it has proven to be the most robust and affordable solution yet. The software slices the model into sections that our cnc can handle due to the limitation of travel in our Z depth which is a maximum of 6". Export into cnc software such as Aspire which then exports out into the appropriate g-code for our brand of cnc machine. After routing/ carving is complete the individual slices get glued together and sanded smooth which is the 2nd phase illustrated in the picture. next it moves on to be hardcoated with a polymer resin. 3rd illustration We then airbrush and detail it to make it look real using waterbased paints. 4th Illustration Material we made it out of was standard eps foam, each illustration in the picture is the real photo taken from our shop. The file attached is not the rhino since our client now own the rights to it, attached is a recent 3d model of a Gargoyle maquette that was scanned using the Handyscan 3d laser scanner. This digital 3d model is ready to begin the process of being reproduced into a large model. The Gargoyle model attached is a super high definition model with 122,000 verticies and 238,164 faces, so it can easily be sculpted or manipulated more with any 3d software like zbrush or similar that can import the .stl file format.
