Maker Coin

Maker Coin

This is a maker coin designed to test 3d printer settings as well as its limits. It is gear-shaped with circles engraved along the outside. I was inspired to create a gear-shaped maker coin because I felt it was a good challenge to make circular patterns around shape of a coin. Also, I believe that the design turned out very stylish and crisp, which is one more of the many reasons I choose the shape. In the middle are the initials JR with a line underneath to emphasize the letters. At first, I had arrows pointing to the letters, but after conversations with my advisor, we decided to go with a line underneath. Finally, when constructing the prototype in SolidWorks, the letters were unorganized and connected to one another. Thus, I dissolved the sketch text and was able to center them in the middle of the coin. The process was very smooth, as the goal I had set for the piece was very attainable and it was completed in a few days. It has a diameter of 6 inches and a total thickness of 1.25 cm. I wanted it in light blue and the maker coin printed great for me.
