Makerbot 2X GoPro Camera Mount

This thing is a camera mount to attach to your Makerbot Replicator 2X printer that is designed for usage with your GoPro Hero camera. Purpose: time-lapsed photography. I printed this in black ABS plastic. For more info, see instructions. Since it comes close to the edges of your build plate, it is very important that: 1) You do a good job leveling your build plate before making this. 2) That you have your Kapton tape down as best as possible. This needs to be watched and babied! To do rafting I used whpthomas' ear rafting:http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:38272 I used by goPro Mounting Bracket:http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:124328 Which was derived from barspin's:http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:117862 I do have some ideas to make this better. One idea is print clamps (I think this will be my next project). Other ideas involve changes to the design. But for now at least it works! Instructions 1) Make sure build plate is as level and as clean as possible... we will be printing near the edges! 2) I printed with 2 shells and a 20% infill. No rafts or supports (they're built into the model). 3) Especially the first few layers, really watch this thing! 4) Even with the built-in rafts (at least for ABS) it really wants to pull away from the build plate and warp (I used some Elmers Wood Glue to help me... just what I had handy)! Note that the Kapton tape has more of a tendency to pull off the platform around the edges. 5) It took me 4 hours and 54 minutes to print. I cleaned some of the stringy cruft off (and the glue). 6) I reamed the hole where the GoPro camera attaches with a 3/16 titanium drill bit. 7) A raised edge "appeared" on one edge on the face that goes up against the printer that was Not part of the model. I had to use a sharp tool to carve it off so that the mount would attach flush to the surface of the printer case. 8) Unscrew middle hex nut on the top-front of your printer, put camera mount in place and screw in the hex nut until snug. 9) Start taking time lapse video of you 3D prints!
