Makerbot Replicator 2 and 2X Adjustable Feet

Are all of your work surfaces level? Sadly, mine aren't (old house syndrome). Does your Makerbot Replicator 2/2X balance on three sides? Is your manual stuffed under one side to keep it from rocking? Is so, it's time to put a stop to all that silliness! While it may not matter (much) whether your Makerbot Rep2 is level, it certainly looks better when it is level! And not rocking has got to be a good thing. I made this adjustable foot by using some left over 8mm adjusters from an Ikea bookshelf. I've included a .stl file of a foot that will accept an 8mm bolt if you don't have any extra Ikea bookshelf parts laying around. Just take an 8mm x 40mm or longer bolt, heat the end up and press it into the foot. This work is a mashup of my part and the replacement feet from thing http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:219127. If you want to use a different sized bolt, see the .scad file for directions on how to modify the part. Update 2014-07-27 : I added a new .scad file that imports the source object and positions it correctly for printing. Easier to use! Instructions Print out (4) of the adjustable feet bases and (4) of the feet. Requires: (4) 8mm x 40mm or longer bolts (4) 8mm nuts -or- (4) 8mm adjusters from an Ikea bookshelf or similar If you have to make the feet: -- Heat the head of the 8mm bolt and press into the foot (or glue it in place). -- Insert the nuts into the nut traps. -- Thread the bolts into the adjusters, else: -- Thread the foot into each adjuster. finally: -- Replace all four of the original feet. -- Adjust until unit is level.
