The build plate arm reinforcement has been completed, resulting in a significantly stiffer arm. The system consists of 8 printed parts per side along with three 8mm carbon fiber square rods and 35 screws for each side. These components assemble into four holding plastic parts that secure the carbon fiber rods within the printed elements. Fastening these parts to the arm is achieved through plastic plugs, which are expanded using a screw. This design aims to increase stiffness in the arm while preventing warping due to heat and time exposure. Each side requires 29 screws for covers, six shorter screws for ex-pander plugs in the parts, and a 350mm long 8mm carbon fiber square rod. The total cost for both sides was approximately $15-20. Before assembly, ensure that the printed channels are no wider than 8mm to accommodate the carbon fiber rods correctly. If necessary, use a file to adjust the width. Additionally, measuring the first printed arm plug part can help optimize the remaining parts and determine the required screw sizes. The holes in the bottom and upper parts measure 3mm and 3.5mm, respectively. Overall, the reinforcement exceeded expectations by significantly reducing flex in the arm; however, the background rod on which the arm is mounted still exhibits some flexibility when pressure is applied to the front of the arm. To create these components, use 123D Design for designing the plastic parts and MakerWare for printing them, as most parts require support during printing. The carbon fiber square rods can be purchased from a shop specializing in carbon fiber products.
