NOTE: You should only use a flexible filament for printing these masks. depending on the type, PLA or other rigid materials could prove too brittle and could cause injury if wearing on your face. Check out this video made by icfirz where he does a great video demonstrating the dangers of this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErP28uP4mVI&feature=youtu.be I do not recommend wearing any mask while driving for multiple reasons (carbon dioxide, airbags, etc.). Check out this story where a person wearing an n95 mask passed out from (apparently) carbon dioxide build-up. Don't know what mask they were wearing or what all contributed to it but good to be aware of. https://dailyvoice.com/new-jersey/morris/police-fire/nj-driver-wearing-n95-mask-passes-out-crashes-due-to-lack-of-oxygen-police-say/787079/ If you like this mask and would like to help support my work you can either use the "Tip Designer" link or PayPal me directly at: https://www.paypal.me/MrDWGraf Please hit the like button! (if you like the product) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Goal of this mask is to make a low poly respirator that is stupid simple to print/operate and that uses a readily available/incredibly cheap filter mechanism requiring no cutting of material. (in this case makeup pads) This mask is a low poly option (Lite Large Mask with Lite filter 21g) that requires no supports, rims or rafts and can be printed at 0% infill. Using minimal filament allows the mask to print much quicker/cheaper in a situation where mass production is necessary. If you "make" one I would love to see you post your make here!! Description of “Thing Files”: Masks - There are three iterations in different sizes: Lite – Designed to be just 2 layers thick, this is not the strongest design but it is the fastest to print and is a great option for those looking to mass-produce these for hospitals, their employees or for any other reason. Note: there’s a 4 lite mask STL a 250x250 bedplate for those of you doing mass production. Print time 4hr 20min (Filter covers not included). Cura Special Settings: Wall line count “3”, Infill Density “0%”, Print Speed “100”, Wall Speed “100”, Generate Support “NO”, Build Plate Adhesion Type “None” Regular – Heavier than the light this mask is designed to print with at 3 layers thick and is a sturdier option. Heavy Duty – at a 6 layer wall thickness, this is the sturdiest mask but also the slowest to print. Filter Covers - Covers are designed to work with any of the Makers Modular Mask System masks: Regular – This filter cover is designed to protect the person from people coughing or sneezing in their face by pulling the air in a reverse flow. Lite – designed to hold the filter in place while using minimal resources. Double Filter Cover and Insert – This allows you to use two filters instead of one. I’ve noticed a drastic improvement in breathability. No special parts needed, simply print the adapter and it will screw onto your existing mask. This design allows air to pass independently over each filter pad to reduce the amount of effort. You could put multiple adapters on if you wanted to use even more filters. Check out the new video that shows how to use it. Another thing you can do is put 4 filters in the mask instead of 2. It breaths about like using the cap with 1 but I'm sure it would give quite a bit more protection. Extra Adapters: 3M Adapter to use 3M Filter on the Makers Modular Mask System - There is now an adapter so you can use a 3M style filter on the system if you want to. Please note the "3M Filter Spacer" file as you can use this if your filter is loose. I would recommend (if you can) printing this spacer in a flexible filament to give your filter a better seal. 14mm Clip – This allows you to attach a wider strap to the hook points There is now an adapter that allows you to connect the filtration to some types of 3M masks. It feels like this page is getting busy so I will link to it: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4271820 NOTE: I am designing the “Filter Covers” so they can be used across all grades and sizes of these masks. The “Lite Filter Cover” will work on the HD, Regular and Lite masks, same goes for the “Regular Filter Cover” NOTE: The videos are of the original mask but the concept is very similar. NOTE: You are putting an experimentally 3D printed item against your face. Be sure to be careful, if you smash into something it could cut you or break and injure you. Make sure you use a protective something around the outside rim to reduce the risk of injury. but use it at your own risk. Check it out here on his Youtube channel called 1D10CRACY: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRbifqH1Jh0&t=621s I have added a video that explains how the doubler works. You can see it in the video library or at https://youtu.be/wHG4s7gVlig Special Thanks to Brandon Koskey (Beeh1) for featuring this mask in his video that explains how to make a strap and gasket for this mask using simple household goods. His video can be seen at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsKbbYxui4E&feature=youtu.be and you can see his designs at: https://www.thingiverse.com/Beeh1/designs Here’s a link to the original version: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4245757 Filter Options -https://smartairfilters.com/en/blog/best-materials-make-diy-face-mask-virus/?fbclid=IwAR3z7evVGeyyae2hqP1N5pPD6zQPGVPZrrX2ka5a-1R5wmf7ntTNNcs3j-A How effective are DIY masks -https://smartairfilters.com/en/blog/diy-homemade-mask-protect-virus-coronavirus/ This mask is a combination of the Montana and Copper3d COVID masks but is primarily based on the Montana Billings Clinic mask (website below with a good disclaimer that will also apply to this mask) but I wanted to be able to use cotton makeup pads as a filter instead of cutting out something square but the Copper3d was too small to fit a pad in and the screw was too small to get a good grip on. You can use any filtration device you like in there but the pads fit great. No guarantees that this will keep you from getting COVID, but anything should be better than nothing. https://www.billingsclinic.com/foundation/3d-printed-surgical-mask/ Note: I am not a doctor and cannot give any assurance that this will work. Use it at your own risk.
