For Makita LXT 18V Tools only:

This is a tool holster and organizer designed for the tool to click into place like the battery. The latch mechanism and button is print in place (PIP). And only a small area of support is needed (see pics).

I included 2 versions (so far) - in one version it even has a latch that is activated by a button, similar to the actual battery - push the tool in to engage and provides a satisfying “click” sound. The other version allows the tool to simply slide in and has no latch or button. Your choice.

Version with a latch - two handed operation to remove, more secure (small support needed)

Version without a latch - one handed operation to remove, more convenient (no supports needed)

Soon!- taller versions with and without latch to allow drivers with a belt hook to use this holster.

I've test fitted this design with 2 new Makita LXT tools and 6 well-used ones. They all fit well - a bit tighter on the new ones and a bit looser on the well-used ones, to be expected.

Tools I've tested this design on: 2 hammer drills, regular drill, impact driver, multi-tool, utility light, orbital sander (new), grass cutter (new).

The button feature has a built-in mechanical stop so it can never be over flexed (and break).

Each holster would need 3x M5 flat heads to secure onto a stable surface:

under a shelf or table

against a vertical wall

Recommendations:

Designed as a PLA application

PETG is not recommended because the stringing, the overhang and bridging features tend to weld the mechanism in place.

Intended to print vertically as shown in the pics, with a small support area

Intended to print with 2 perimeter walls, with the mechanical stop to prevent over-flexing the mechanism (and breaking it) - printing with more walls will make the latch more stiff and more prone to breaking.

After removing supports, you need to (gently) press on the latch and button at the same time to “break them loose” from the surrounding geometry.

If you add this to your collection and/or download the model, please click the LIKE button and give it some STARS!

Also please post a make as I would enjoy seeing how you make use out of it - it would brighten my day. :-D

Happy Printing!
