The oldest M-Gleis switches of maerklin have big lanterns which interfere with modern long passenger cars in 1:100 and 1:87. As I could not find a better solution than exchange the switch against a new one with small lanterns I designed this. Basically you remove the big lantern and glue the socket into the bulb holder. Take care the upper side is even for both parts. I used fast set glue. Fix the bulb holder with the original screw in the switch. The lantern and the socket are put together with a 9 mm long and 2 mm in diameter rod. I took it from a bycicle spoke but any other would do the job, too. If the lantern does not move easy enough use a 2 mm drill and enlarge the hole a little just by hand not with a electrical tool. I do not enlight my switches. If you want it might work to place an LED at the bottom of the bulb holder and use a light guide instead of the steal rod. But just an idea and not tested.
