Sculpture of Martin Miguel de Güemes. Hero of the war of independence of Argentina. He was an Argentine military man who played an outstanding role in the War of Independence and in the Argentine civil wars. For six years he was the governor of the province of Salta and with very scarce resources he waged an almost constant defensive war, known as the Gaucho War, which kept the rest of the Argentine territory free from royalist invasions.
