Mask of a Lion

Mask of a Lion

myminifactory

Pierre d'Assézat, made wealthy from the trade in pastel, had an immense townhouse built in 1555 whose facades were inspired by the treatises of Sebastiano Selio, the king's architect. In line with classical models, such as the square house of Nimes, lion muzzles are placed on the upper cornices as if to drain the rainwater off the roof 'with aroar'.
