Step Instruction Open Autocad and open a new acad3D.dwt file Change the units to millimetres by doing the following: Format -> Units Change inches to millimetres using the dropdown menu below “Insertion Scale Units”. Draw and create the 3D tensile specimens in Autocad with the exact dimension as detailed in the images above. The only commands you’ll need to use in AutoCAD are detailed in appendix 1. For further help understanding what each command means, refer to the online AutoCAD Learning Resouces webpage using the URL in appendix 1. Export the tensile specimens as a .stl file by doing the following: From the dropdown menu “File” select export by clicking on it. Choose a destination to save the file, e.g. your desktop, and change the file type to= “Lithography (*.stl)” with your name and student number Click save The command line should read “EXPORT Select solids or watertight meshes:” Click on the test specimen with your cursor to select it Hit enter and the cube will be saved in your chosen destination as a .stl file
