Measuring Stress and Strain of a cantilevered aluminum square tube

Measuring Stress and Strain of a cantilevered aluminum square tube

grabcad

The cantilevered aluminum square tube is to be subjected to bending and torsional loading. The biaxial strain measurements will be obtained by the electrical resistance strain gages. The 6061-aluminum square tube of 2in*2in will be connected at three specified locations to three gages at the strain gage. As the square tube is subjected to a deflection due to the applied combined loading, the wires connected to the tube elongates as strain is exerted upon the strain gage. The strain gage operates based on the change of resistance and the outputs for the gages display the strain in microstrain. From the experimental data obtained in the form of microstrain, the strain and stresses will be calculated. Solid Mechanics theoretical equations will also be used to calculate the stress and strain due to the applied loading.
