The bottoms are optional. The tops are the typical height of wrist rests and the bottoms add an extra 5mm, whatever your preference. I have added holes so that the left and right side can be connected with a simple nut and bolt if you want. For the top parts supports are needed and minimal sanding to smoothen surfaces. In the picture i bolted the two sides together and used wood filler on the middle division. once dry, i sanded the middle smooth until the two parts felt like one piece and then wrapped it with wood vinyl wrap. hope you guys like it!
