Unlike the first instance, a closed belt replaces the open one here. Additionally, the rotation direction of the pulleys is reversed. To achieve this, three side-by-side pulleys are mounted on the driven shaft - the middle one is fixed while the others are loose. Both an open and crossed belt are used to switch the shaft's direction without stopping or changing the driver. The open belt will always be on the stationary pulley, while the crossed belt runs on a loose one. This setup drives the shaft in either direction based on which belt is on the fixed pulley.
