Medea stood as a powerful figure in Greek mythology, her lineage tracing back to King Aeëtes of Colchis, making her the niece of Circe and granddaughter of the radiant sun god Helios. She would eventually marry Jason, a renowned hero, but their union was short-lived when Creon, the king of Corinth, offered his daughter Glauce to Jason in exchange for Medea's hand. In response, Euripides' play Medea chronicles Medea's fierce determination to exact vengeance on her treacherous husband by taking drastic measures, culminating in the tragic killing of their innocent children.
