Menger Sponges

Menger Sponges

grabcad

Drew up a basic Menger sponge fractal in Solidworks and OpenSCAD. Uploaded SLDPRT files are level 3 (the most complex I could get Solidworks to finish rendering as a single featured part) and level 4 (made by exporting the level 3 as a parasolid, then reimporting into a new part and combining 20 bodies). OpenSCAD file has a parameter for fractal level (0-4) but it seems to crash if you try for 5. I did manage to render out (as in F6 and save an STL) a level 4 sponge in OpenSCAD, but the render took hours to process. Also included STLs of level 0 (normal cube, no holes) through 5 (4681 holes per side, plus they all intersect). The level 5 STL involves almost 10 million triangles and weighs in at almost 500 MB so beware.
