Metal File Handle

Metal File Handle

prusaprinters

We got our office Prusa Mk3s+ about 2-3 weeks ago and new diamond metal files came in the beginning of the week. We needed good handles that could survive in a machine shop, constantly being used. I tried a few models from all the community sites and there were good ones but nothing really checked all the boxes for my standard of tool handle. The shop floor is pretty fast paced so I wanted to design something I'd be comfortable using everyday and print it in this great orange PETG so the guys could see them well.

This project took be a few tries but I have a working model that I might change a bit over time to perfect the design. This model has a good thumb/forefinger position, the design has a 30 degree bend to be driven more by your palm instead of your fingers so your fingers aren't sore after 2 hours, has a good thumb groove, and does not need supports to be printed.

This model is currently for a 5.5" file, with a 1.5" tang. Just hammer the file into the handle on a table or use a vise for thinner files.

Print with 6 or more walls for strength

nozzle is 0.4mm, 20% infill at 0.3mm layer height for speed

bed can hold 28 at a time and printed in about a 1.5 days. (good if you need alot of them, I need to print 60)

print in orientation shown in photo, with the tool insert is on the build plate, No supports needed
