The fortress of Metsamor is situated on a volcanic hill called Mets Blur (Big Hill), 40 km south-west from Yerevan, Armenia. It is among the most important archaeological sites in the southern Caucasus. The citadel and the nearby necropolis was heavily excavated by Armenian archaeologist, Emma Khanzadyan between the 1960’s and 1990’s. The citadel houses many buildings representing a wide chronological spectrum. The site itself is occupied as early as the beginning of IV millennium BC and remains as such, with intervals, until the 17th century AD. Although, the main occupation phase of the citadel can be attributed to the Late Bronze - Early Iron Age (14th - 8th century BC), when the site functioned as a major metal production centre. 3-D model by Marek Truszkowski and Otto Bagi. meta_geo, geo_szpkqk21cvzy geo_s, geo_sz, geo_szp, geo_szpk, geo_szpkq
