My MG ZT Tourer in snowfall, February 2021. The MG marque arose from Morris Garages, ‘sportifying’ Morris cars in the 1920s. It went through various guises, including being part of the ill-fated British Leyland and the Rover Group. In 2000 it inherited the engineering assets of Rover from BMW, and the MG Rover Group was born. It lasted 5 glorious years before administration, and was the last domestic mass car manufacturer in Britain. They built a few models, including taking over production of Rover’s stately swan song, the 75, and the ZT was born. Despite being a diesel tourer, it feels much sportier to drive than my old petrol 75, and is just as eye-catching. This was one of the last ever built, giving it a special place in British automotive history and this page. MG has resurrected in recent years, but as part of the Chinese state-owned SAIC Motor and newer models have subsequently lost any charm or relationship with the pedigree. 180 images, processed in Metashape, with some mesh fiddling in Blender.
