MIC6 (Cast Aluminum) Bed Cable Strain Relief

MIC6 (Cast Aluminum) Bed Cable Strain Relief

thingiverse

I designed this "Bed Cable Strain Relief" for my 1/4 inch (7mm) MIC6 cast aluminum bed because I couldn't find anything else worth printing and using. The design sticks up over the top so I can have something at the back to push my PEI flex plate against. I use it to center the flex sheet and to ensure it stays even with the bed edges so I don't burn my fingers anymore like I used to. Print this piece in ABS, because anything else will melt if you use the MIC6 bed for printing ABS. It will even melt ABS if your bed goes over 100C. I used to print ABS with a 110C bed and found out the hard way. So now I leave my bed at 100C. Also print it in the same orientation as it's found and use supports where needed. Once printed, place the print where you want to install it and mark where you need the two holes on the MIC6 bed. Use a 7/64 metal drill bit to drill two holes right through the bed, then use two M3 screws no shorter than 10mm and no longer than 14mm to secure it to the bed (any longer will stick out the top through your magnetic sheet and mess up the flex plate, and any shorter won't have the needed grip to stay attached). If you know how to do it, it's probably better if you drill the holes then tap them for M3 screws, but it has worked just fine for me for the last 3 years now without tapping the holes. It's your choice, but if I knew how to do it, I would have tapped the holes properly. Lastly, use a couple of mini zip-ties to tie off the cables securely to the Strain Relief and you're done !! Please excuse one of my photos, I don't have matching screws, but I just ordered some new ones. PLEASE click the like button if you like this design. Thanks !! EDIT March 31st 2023: I've added a STEP file, a DWG file, and a DXF file for anyone that wants or needs one.
