Microwave ovens have a waveguide cover made from a thin sheet of mica material that allows the microwave energy to enter the oven cavity, but prevents food splashes from contaminating the waveguide. Over time, the mica sheet breaks down and eventually needs to be replaced. The replacement parts are available for many models, but it costs a lot less to buy a sheet of mica and cut it to fit. Search for "microwave waveguide cover" and you'll find lots of products available. I have a GE JE1860GB microwave oven. http://searspartsdirect.com says that the Microwave Waveguide Cover part number is WB06X10162, but is discontinued. Amazon.com has it available for $36. Yikes! I bought four 5.1" square "Microwave Cover Mica Wave Guide Sheet" on eBay for $1.75 from China including shipping. I measured the waveguide cover from my microwave and created the design in Inkscape. I used a Universal Laser Systems (ULS) PLS6.75 to cut the mica sheet. "mica" is not in the PLS software's material database. I tried using "mat board" and it cut perfectly. It was a lucky guess.
