I needed a more reliable way to attach new extruder designs to the Solidoodle gantry while keeping it rigid and easy to maintain. This design effectively solved this problem, as demonstrated in the video linked below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fMubUq-1mw. First, print out the upgrade and ensure it doesn't have any layer issues or adhesion problems, and that its dimensions are accurate. Also, make a mount to incorporate a new extruder into the design. Next, remove the four 3mm screws holding the gantry in place. Begin by removing two screws from the top of the old extruder mount, then one screw at the base where the nylon square piece is located. Remove one or two screws to detach the gantry piece to be replaced. Install the upgrade and use loctite and glue to secure the six 3mm nuts into the mid-gantry piece. Reattach the gantry piece to the mid-gantry assembly, put your extruder back on, and you're ready to go! This upgrade has completely resolved my random layer issues with my Solidoodle printers. The print head can no longer be moved when I try to move it by hand, resulting in a significant quality increase. Please test your extruder mount before disassembling your printer. As always, I'm not responsible for any damage or liability caused by this upgrade. Please enjoy and share my successes on Thingiverse! Leave a comment here or on the YouTube video to let me know how it goes. Thank you! Have a great day!
