This small rock was found by Mike Short in March 2010, just north of Dryas Dike in the Middle Ridge area of Middleton Moor, North Yorkshire. It was found close to a small scattered cairn and within 15m of two other carved rocks. Measuring approx 0.5m x 0.4m this rock has one unusual deep conical cup placed fairly centrally, an irregular shaped, broad, deep, carved depression, a smaller regular cup and a curving groove. It shares characteristics with several other carved rocks in the Middleton Moor area, such as being the domed and a curving groove utilising the rocks morphology. Shortly after being found, it acquired the nickname ‘Casper Rock’ due to its resemblance to the ‘Friendly Ghost’. It was added to Keith Boughey’s regional rock art archive as IAG440a, and does not have an ERA record. Model created from 2 stereo pairs captured using a calibrated 10mp Canon Powershot A640 on 4th April 2010. A recent fieldtrip to the area found the carving completely covered.
