Mini Belt Sander Dust Collector

Mini Belt Sander Dust Collector

I bought a cheap bench top belt sander online, and stupidly enough I forgot that sanding produces dust, which quickly made a huge mess of my workbench, and probably also my lungs, when I tried to use it to sand down a piece of brass. I couldn't readily find a solution available either for purchase or on Thingiverse. Fortunately, I was also smart enough to own a 3D printer, so I quickly designed my own solution, which is easy to print, all in one piece, with minimal support material required. This dust collector fits snugly underneath a generic vertical mini desktop belt sander, as seen in the above images. It slides in over the screws and motor mounting bracket for a tight fit that won't increase the space the sander takes up on your bench. It includes an outlet to attach standard CPAP tubing, for connecting it to a vacuum system. This could be as simple as a blower with a filter on it. I personally use a cheap 12V car vacuum mounted onto the wall and connected to the tubing, and to a wall-wart power supply. The dust collector will catch any heavier dust on its own, but fine particles will float out without the use of a vacuum with decent airflow.
