Mini-ITX NAS Open Frame

This is an open frame modular chassis design for a mini-ITX based NAS or home server. The chassis measures 30.4 cm 22.8 cm x 22.8 cm and can take: - An ATX PSU - A mini ITX motherboard - Up to 5 x 3.5" HDDs (bracket holes are spaced for 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5) - Up to 3 x 2.5" HDDs or SSDs. This makes it pretty much the most compact mini-itx case that can handle 8 drives and a full blown ATX power supply. Notes: - The current design is not designed to take any extra PCI cards, but it can easily be modified. For large video cards, you will need to make the frame deeper than this one, by using tubes that are maybe 240mm long instead of 20mm. You might need to design an extra bracket to hold everything together. - The illustrations show a setup with two 3.5" HDD rails on the top. If you have more than 2 drives, I strongly suggest printing two more rails and adding two 12 mm crossbars to support the drives from below. This modular design uses 12 mm tubes or rods and is based on my 12mm Tube Frame Connector Kit (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3046297) with the following additional parts: - 2.5" HDD bracket (x2 fits above the PSU) - 3.5" HDD brackets (x2 or x4 with extra crossbars if you have more than 2 drives) - PSU support (x1 fits underneath the PSU) - 120 mm Fan bracket (x1 or x2 depending on how you want to fit it) - Faceplate for LEDs, Power and Reset buttons. You will need the following lengths of 12 mm diameter aluminium tubes: - x4 273mm long tubes (horizontal X axis) - x6 200mm long tubes (vertical Z axis) or longer if you need clearance for a large CPU cooler. - x6 200mm long tubes (horizontal Y axis) or longer if you need clearance for a long video card. - x2 200 mm tubes if you want to fit the optional crossbars to support more than two 3.5" HDDs. From the 120mm tube connector kit, you will need: - 3-corner connectors (8x) - 4-T pieces (4x) - 3-T pieces (2x) for the optional crossbars. - A whole bunch of clips (print them by the dozen !) The whole thing is designed to be customizable based on whatever your requirements are. You can take it apart, modify it, reassemble the parts, etc... It is also possible to add side panels to turn the open frame design into a closed case if you want. In addition, you will need: - An assortment of PC case screws (for example: http://a.co/8Wi3nHZ) - LED, power, and reset buttons (for example: http://a.co/injxW3I) - M2.5x6mm self tapping screws for the 12 mm frame connectors.
