Mini Marble Maze

Mini Marble Maze

This is my submission for the multi-part desktop game. I began this challenge by researching various arcade games from 90s as I wanted to incorporate a sense of nostalgia into my design. This research led to the exploration of small plastic games that that were sold in Kinder Surprises and Happy Meals at McDonalds. These designs featured compact forms with multiple parts that could connect together. After my initial research, I began visualising my concept through two-dimensional and three-dimensional sketches. This allowed me to work out the basic form, sizes and components. I then moved into Autodesk Fusion 360 to design this product digitally for 3D printing. My concept is based on a two-part marble maze design with a changeable top. Using a small 5mm marble, the design requires the user to rotate the game in their hands whilst allowing the marble to travel from one side of the maze to the other. The maze features holes which are to be avoided as failure to do so would mean the ball falls into the base which requires the user to start the game again. The changeable top piece can be swapped with more complex mazes to increase difficulty. This top piece does not feature walls on the perimeter as it sits inside the base. This allows the base to also act as the perimeter border for the maze.
