Mini Minidisc Storage Box

Mini Minidisc Storage Box

Just a simple storage box for storing up to 22 minidiscs without their cases. This s designed to allow you to flip through them to browse so filling it full to the maximum will prevent you from doing this.

Hinge design has been changed from the original 66 disc version of this box. I think this is a better design, but it will require you to possibly adjust the diameter of the axel part, and also be thorough about cleaning out the support material from the hinge holes.

Printing & Supports

I printed in Protopasta Galactic Purple PLA at 0.3mm layer heights and it looks pretty good.

Print 1x base, 1x lid, and 1x hinge pieces. Base and lid will both fit on the print bed of an i3 sized printer as per the 3mf provided. Orient the flat surfaces of all pieces onto the build plate. The chamfers on the perimeter and the handle are all 45degrees, so you will not need supports on these. However the logo on the lid and hinges will need supports.

Build

Final assembly is by placing the lid on the base, and pushing/tapping the axle part through the hinge holes. This was a close fit on the outer parts of the hinge, and as mentioned, may require some tweaking of the axel diameter. If you undersize it too much, it can be finally secured by a little drop of superglue on each end of the axle. If you break the axel, just push/tap the broken end in from the other side.

I'm keen to see your prints and hear your comments- any and all comments are welcome!
