Mini Tackle Box for Pen Fishing Rods

thingiverse

It is a miniature tackle box designed for a pen fishing rod. The thing houses everything: the Pen pole, the reel, bits of tackle, everything you might need for a mini fishing expedition. The entire box is made from a single sheet of 1/8 inch plywood (18*12 inches) and has a 3D printed cubby for the reel. The rod you see in the pictures above is the Pen Fishing Rod Goliath and rear drag reel combo (MX 15AA). Note: The tackle box will fit any Pen Fishing rod pole but the reel cubby is designed to fit the Pen Fishing Rod rear drag reel. Anyone who has the front drag reel should be able to fit their reel in the cubby but other reel types will not be compatible. This is still a prototype, a better one is in the works! Please leave suggestion for the redesign in the comments!!! Instructions What you'll need: Machines -Epilogue Laser -Maker Bot Materials -Plywood -Wood Glue -Paper clips -Para cord 5" of 1/4" Wooden Dowel -ABS Plastic Putting it Together The entire box is simply glued together. The way the pieces are laid out in the file are reflective of how its fits together (reference the pictures above if you become confused while assembling) The handle shown is weaved from para cord. You can use many different knots to weave a handle like the one shown above (snake knot). One can learn how to make knots like this (like I did) at www.Instructables.com http://www.instructables.com/id/Paracord-wrist-lanyard-made-with-the-snake-knot/ You'll have to print out the reel cubby using a 3D printer. depending on what machine you use, it could take a few hours. For the bottom tackle board, the one with 9 holes, plug each hole with a .5" long wooden peg cut from the dowel. These pegs are there so pre-lined hooks can be wrapped around and kept readily available for deployment. Between the 3 rows of of pegs will fit two removable slots for whatever you like (I use them for clippers & split shots). The middle layer tackle board is very self exclamatory to assemble from looking at the pictures and the way its cut it cuts out. For the flag that will hold the box open when in use, you'll save the circle cut out from the piece that holds the flag. Glue the circle to the base of the flag so that it can be used as the axis for which the flag to rotate off the piece from which the circle was scrap from (hard to explain, look for the picture and it becomes clear what I mean) In the pictures you see above there is a small box that sits beneath the heal of the reel. the files don't have that part because it isn't needed and wasn't included in the most recent version I've made. The only hard part of the build is the buckles. look at the detailed picture of it above. What you do is take two of the pieces that look like ramps with loops on top and glue them together. You then take two ramp shaped pieces and glue one on each side of the part you just made. That makes the bottom half of the buckle base. Make two of these. Next step is to make the top base of the buckle. you take 4 of the square bits and glue them together. made two of these pieces. Next step is the flipper part. Take two of the short bars with the two holes and glue them together and on each side of this new piece, glue on one of the bars with three wholes in it. Now you'll need to straighten some paperclips and thread them through the hole like you see in the picture. you bend the paperclips at 90 degree angles so on both end right where they stick out of the wood. You cut the rest of the paperclip at the angle and it should stay. I really tried to make this comprehensive enough but i realize its one will need to do a lot of fiddling to get it all put together. There isn't much else to say, comment if you need me to be less lazy and add actual directions on how to make this.
