Modified laser pointer holder for K40 laser cutter

These are modified versions of kai's aiming aid for the K40, the cheap Chinese laser cutter that's all over eBay. Mix & match with the original parts as needed. The holder piece has been modified to fit a 6mm laser diode module I already had, with a swivel mount so that the aim can be adjusted. The hinge piece has been modified to bring the holder about 2mm further out from the mounting clip (the back edge of the lid would otherwise scrape on the holder in my case). Also, I deleted the built-in support fins on this piece, which were causing slicing problems in Cura - the fins were far too thin to actually produce any plastic, yet their presence was keeping Cura from being able to produce any support structure of its own in those areas. The bent piece of metal on the bottom of my holder is simply a weight to make sure that the pointer drops to a consistent position when the lid is opened. This seemed like an easier solution than the spring in the original Thing. My K40 came equipped with a germanium focusing lens, which is completely opaque to visible light. I had to replace it with a ZnSe lens for this accessory to be of any use.
