Modular Buttons - Screw Heads

Modular Buttons - Screw Heads

I wanted to create some buttons that look like screw heads, but I didn't want the threads to show over the top of the screw head. So I came up with this design which uses a fairly standard button that gets sewn onto the cloth, and then a decorative cap that attaches over the top of the sewn on button. This also gives you the added benefit that you can remove the decorative button and replace it with something entirely new!

There are 5 different screw heads:

Button Head Screws

Philips

Flat head

Torx

Hex

Cap Head Screws

Hex

I'm especially proud of the cap head screw as I also included the slight ribbing around the outside in the design, and I think it came out just right. Plus these hex cap head screws are used so much when building 3d printers, so it holds a special place in my heart.

Remix it!

I've also included a STEP file which includes the basic geometry required to attach to the button core so that you can create your own decorative buttons! Don't limit yourself to screw heads, you can make anything into a button!

I'd also like to say thanks to my wife for putting up with my shenanigans and making all of these pouches for me just so I can take some nice pictures of the buttons I designed.
