Modular Desk Organizer

Modular Desk Organizer

I originally had an idea to make a fully modular desk organizer. I came up with a fully modular and interchangeable desk organizer. With it being fully modular, you can configure the desk organizer with the select modules you want and how you want them to be arranged, you can even make your own modules to go with it. With the power of 3D printing, you can make this right at home, which saves you money with it not being made at a factory and shipped to homes. The main problem I came across was how can I make the modules connect to each other without the loss of customization because that is my main goal. I thought of making prongs coming out of the modules that connect to the other modules, but that resulted in big constrains to it being customizable as some modules can only connect in certain ways. That idea was not going to work so then I thought of a removable connector that varies in length. Since the modules are not all the same height, this was a possible solution. I then ran out of time to improve the connector problem and was stuck with the removable connectors. If I had more time for this competition I would have definitely improved the ways the modules connect. This example desk organizer features three modules for storing pens, pencils, remotes, and or paper clips, a USB rack, a 3inx3in sticky note holder, and a paper, notebook, or file sorter. In the downloads I included other models that are compatible with the organizer.
