This is a modular hex-grid that fits Fallout and Twilight Imperium cardboard tiles. Each hex has 12 small slots in the bottom for circular magnets that are 2 mm in diameter and 1 mm thick. The magnets I used were just strong enough to pull each other out of the slots, so I applied a drop of thin super glue to the slot after the magnet was inserted (which was MUCH easier and cleaner that applying glue to the magnet or slot first). They have recesses in the sides which easily allow the Fallout tiles to be removed and flipped over when exploring. In each side, one magent must have north facing inwards and the other magnet needs south facing inwards. The same orientation needs to be used for all sides of all hexes for them to attract each other correctly. I did one hex side carefully first as a guide and then used it to easily orient magnets being inserted into the other hexes as shown in the image. They attract each other slightly and form a pretty good, solid form when they are all together, so at least the board moves as a single piece. I also game on a metal table top, and the boards don't budge at all.
