This is a replacement plastic insert to the Moen 1417BN. Mine broke after I dropped something on the hand shower head and it snapped off, but don't tell the wife that. To my horror, the list replacement price for the whole elbow is a whopping $65. To remove the old plastic insert, I ended up drilling it out until it. There are 2 additional pieces to the assembly, a plastic retaining clip (like a letter C) and a #9 o-ring (5/8" OD x 7/16" ID x 3/32). Be careful not to destroy the retaining ring, but you can simply buy a new O-ring if needed. There are 2 metal pieces to the assembly, the elbow with male threads, and the stem with female threads. Once the old parts are disassembled and the new part is printed, you are ready to begin. Slide the printed part through the stem (the smaller metal piece). The flanged portion will rest inside the stem. Add the straining mesh washer to the stem to keep the printed part in place. Put the O-ring onto the printed part. It fits into the groove near the center of the part. Put the old plastic retaining clip on the lower groove. Be warned, once you slide the part in and the clip engages, it will be non-removable. Press the part into the elbow. It will take a bit of force to squeeze it past the o-ring. You should hear a click when the retaining clip engages. If done right, the piece should look as good as new. While functional, keep in mind that the new 3d printed part is not as strong as the injection molded part it is replacing. But, you can always fix it for pennies. So you'll come out ahead assuming you don't replace it 50+ times. Print Settings Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Doesn't Matter Notes: I printed this at .2 @ 100% for maximum strength. I included the sketchup files. I rounded the interior corners to assist a bit in air printing. I included the sketchup file for both pre and post rounding just in case you need to edit the file. You'll see there's a flat part to the flange. Print the insert with that side down so the piece is lateral on the print table. This way it doesn't snap off as easy.
