Shortly after starting the serial by Vince Cutajar on building the USS Monitor engine, MEWS was delighted to receive these drawings from Julius de Waal. They are for a double sized version. As with the smaller casting-free version, it can be made from bar stock, albeit at a much higher swarf production rate. On a base 760mm (nearly 30”) long, this really is a substantial piece of enngineering.This is a working model, if you rotate the flywheel or CrankShaft then you will able to see that the Piston, Spindle Valve, Rocker Shaft and Connecting Rod are reciprocate.
