MODEL OVERVIEW The Ford F-450 is the largest model in the Super Duty lineup and it’s available with a gas or diesel engine. There are two bed lengths and three cab styles to choose from along with either rear- or four-wheel-drive configurations. History Ford first introduced the Super Duty lineup for the 1999 model year with the F-450 only available as a chassis cab, slotting in between the F-350 and the F-550 chassis cab. The first F-450 truck arrived as part of the second generation Super Duty range, which was in production from the 2008 to 2010 model years. In addition, to the gas V-8 and V-10, a 6.4-liter turbodiesel V-8 with 350 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque paired to either a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. In addition to the standard trims, there are also two luxury-minded trims, the King Ranch and Harley-Davidson. The third-generation Super Duty arrived for the 2011 model year and was in production until the 2016 model year. For the U.S., the manual transmission option was dropped, leaving a six-speed automatic as the only gearbox available on all variants. The F-450 returns with either gas or diesel powertrains and is also available with two upscale variants, the King Ranch and Platinum. All F-450 models are also available exclusively with four-wheel drive. After a number of updates, the available 6.7-liter turbodiesel V-8 was eventually rated at 440 hp and 860 lb-ft of torque. Towing capacity saw an increase from 24,4000 to 31,200 pounds by its final model year.
