The Montagu's Harrier is a migratory bird of prey. Its original natural habitats were moors, wastelands, wet meadows. The disappearance of these areas forced the birds to try to nest in cultivated plots. But agricultural work is carried out during the breeding season. At the national and regional level, important protection actions have been initiated, which has not prevented this species from regressing. The species seems to have disappeared from the Gers department. The species has been classified as "critically endangered" by Nature Midi-Pyrénées.
