Our team has taken a great design developed by Dr. Dusty Richardson a neurosurgeon at the Billings Clinic and optimized. This mask was developed for 3D printing with a snap-in frame for a N95 filter to fit securely.

The team here loved this design and quickly 3D printed to provide to friends and family. During the process we discovered that the 3D printing took up to 12 hours depending on the resolution. In addition we found that the mask was rather uncomfortable and required a lot of fiddling with foam and sanding. To solve this we quickly created a casting mold that allows a mask to be made out of soft silicone that cures to full strength in 75 minutes.

Print instructions

Here are some tips and tricks for the Mask. We used the 0.2 mm PLA fast setting for the mold and filter assembly and it worked well.

Use RTV platinum cure silicone. We used dragon skin fast cure:
https://www.smooth-on.com/products/dragon-skin-10-fast/

Also, use mold release as it will be tricky to remove if you don't.

It takes about 60 mL of silicone to fill the mold. Place the entire amount inside the mold and then use a spoon to paint the silicone slightly up the sides. Don't worry if it does not look pretty it will smooth out with the top.

Insert the inner mold and clamp the mold assembly upright with a quick clamp.

Wait 75 minutes and you are done with the silicone.

We used existing N95 masks and cut them to size using the filter assembly as a template.

Hope this helps and stay safe!
