Montana Mask Flange Attachment and Strap Buckles

These designs are compatible with the "Montana Mask" that was designed originally by Colton Zaugg, Spencer Zaugg, and Dusty Richardson. I am extremely thankful for their time spent developing this - I have close family members with compromised immune systems and friends/family that work in healthcare. You can find more information about their design process here: https://www.makethemasks.com/ The two main files I designed are an add-on flange for the original filter piece for the mask and buckles for elastic straps used in this mask. The original filter pieces of the mask's design did not include a flange, and I had already printed A LOT of those, so I made a thin attachment to add a flange to those original ones. This can be glued onto the original filter piece. They have now released a version WITH a flange, and I have included it in the files to use as well. The buckles are designed for 1/4 inch elastic straps, but could be scaled up or down based on the size elastic you have available to use for the straps. The main reason for the buckles are so the straps can be loosened to put over your head and then tightened after positioned on your face. This will ensure that the mask has a tight seal. Also, I used foam backer rod (cut in half lengthwise) and then hot glued it around the edge of the mask to create the seal. I hope these files help with anyone who is printing the Montana Masks. If there are any issues with these let me know and I can update them. Use of this mask has not been approved by any institution to protect the use from any type of contaminants. However, the design is intended to help reduce the user from exposure to bacterial and/or viral particles. The design calls for using a piece of cloth-like material as filtration, which can be cut to size and inserted into the mask as shown. Ideally, the filter material should be something capable of filtering particles as small as 1.0–0.3 μm (I’m using MERV 13 air filter material). If this type of material is unavailable, other cloth-like material can be substituted, however the effectiveness is not guaranteed.* *The 3D printed mask information presented here is intended to assist the general public during the current a global pandemic related to COVID-19 and the related nationwide shortage of personal protective equipment. Please be aware that this mask design is not intended to replace standard protective equipment such as N-95 masks or surgical masks when that equipment is available. The use of these 3D printed masks has not been fully tested and has not been approved by federal or state authorities.
